I work in a computer workshop. We keep seeing new m.2 laptops where the drive just overheats. It seems like the manufacturers just don't care how hot these guys get. This is a simple, thin solution that we can offer our customers. I could see that this might not be suitable for an ultra-thin laptop, but we haven't come across it ourselves. Ultimately, the m.2 will run hotter than ideal in a laptop, but this helps prevent burn-in. Tip: Check the backplate where it goes over the m.2. We've seen some sort of metal plate/heatsink on the back panels, in which case a simple thermal pad could be placed on top of the m.2. (As long as it touches the back panel.) If you are looking for a desktop m.2 cooler, choose a thicker one with a built-in small fan. It costs extra money.
