Review on πŸ”§ Enhance Your Woodworking Efficiency with Shop Fox M1015 6 Inch 10 Inch Power Tool by Ryan Nguyen

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Looks good, features are missing.

I bought this lathe from Revain for $497 tax free with free shipping. I needed a small lathe to do just one job. Converting Delrin rod up to 32mm. The lathe arrived in a thin wooden box in 10 days via UPS. The box was damaged, fell down and there was a huge hole underneath. My wife signed for it and didn't notice any damage so I unpacked it and found the lathe surprisingly undamaged except for a broken wire which I fixed. I checked out the cargo lathes in the port and they looked "cheap", this one looked a little better, but not by much. I started using a lathe and it works great for me it's small! actually a bit too small, but it works. The side cover that covers the gearbox is not aluminum as I thought, but cheap plastic, the warning stickers are already peeling off, as are the stickers with the switch positions. I really miss the compound cross slide feature that comes with other lathes, I guess I'll just have to buy it as an extra part. When turning, you quickly run out of feed on the tailstock and compound slide and you have to constantly readjust the tool holder every time you change tools. The lathe needs some 'add ons' to make it pay off, I had to go out and buy a chuck, moving center and cutting tools to get started. I took lots of photos and several videos of my setup. You need to craft a crate to get the lathe to a good working height or your back will start hurting! Overall it's ok but honestly buy a bigger one with a compound cross slide and no plastic parts. I will leave this lathe as it does what I need it to do, but it will fight for everything else. My advice, if you need a single purpose tool like I do, it's fine if you want to do other tasks. Get a bigger lathe.
