Review on πŸ”§ Versatile Extech EX470 True RMS Multimeter with Infrared Thermometer for Accurate Measurements by Troy Arnold

Low quality. Expensive.

I added this to my wish list and received it as a gift. At first I was impressed with the specs but now I know it's a waste of money so my apologies to the person who bought it for me. Right out of the box I had to bend the metal joint back into place. . The center post in one of the wire connectors was bent so it touched the edge and I couldn't connect the connector. The optional IR thermometer was a nice plus. At least that's what I thought until I tried it. At best, I'd say accuracy is around 20 degrees Fahrenheit, which is a pretty useless range. I can tell a hot surface from a room temperature surface, but anything subtler than that is nonsense. The pass tone was a feature I was looking forward to. I soon found out that this is a type of continuity tester that simply runs a beep through the circuit itself so that instead of getting a specific beep depending on the resistance of the circuit, you get something like a painful crunch. It's not very good, but I've used it several times that day without too much trouble. But after a few months of storage I used it again today. The beep is always on. Even without a cable. He discovers continuity with himself. What I suspect means a short in the device itself. Again, I used my seven-dollar multimeter from Port Freight. Which I hate, but it's better than this crap. Summary: Broke after 2 uses and a few months of storage. The view immediately seemed rubbish but I ignored the signs. Do not buy.
