I was running out of ports on my PS3 and was looking for a powered hub to expand it. As a geek with a technical background, I read the USB standard. The voltage level is 5V and the maximum specified current is 0.5A. So 2.5W/port. It has 7 ports and I checked the specs of this device and it puts out 17.5W for the hub. The main problem with most hubs is that they are either "vampire" powered and dependent on your computer, or the power they provide is less than specified by the USB standard. Follow the USB specification and consume more power. The most well-known devices are the Apple iPod and iPhone, as well as most smartphones that charge via USB. Thus, higher power consumption can be achieved than this hub can deliver. And a word to the wise, cheap car chargers deliver over 5 volts and can damage your gear.</sidenote>
