Review on 14/16 Inch Balance Bike For Kids Ages 3-8 Years Old Boys And Girls With Handbrake - Joystar No Pedal Training Bicycle by Charles Thomas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall OK, but recommend having a bike shop tune it, especially the brakes.

First the good. It's light, the sizing is as described, inexpensive, and fair value for the money. I'm hopeful that our 6 year old will master balance and steering since she is too intimidated by her training wheels bike (she pedals just fine but is terrified to fall over so moves at a glacial pace and can't seem to master the coaster brake). The bad are what you'd expect from a bike at this price: the wheels are not super true, and the brake calipers and lever are of such low quality that they are conpletely ineffective for toddlers. I've had to spend a couple hours (what a bike shop would charge about $150 for a pro mechanic to do) truing the wheels, shortening the ridiculously long brake cable and housing, bending the brake caliper arms to be straight and work together, aligning the brake pads properly, and replacing the reach adjustment screw with a longer one that is actually long enough to bring the lever closer to the bars (the one it comes with literally does nothing since it needs to be about 1/4 of an inch longer)It will probably also need the brake pads and/or rim to be scuffed to be able to generate the friction needed for small hands to brake, even with the modifications listed above.

Pros
  • Ideal for kids aged 3 to 8 years old
Cons
  • Can be difficult to use for children with disabilities
