Optical connectors are like contrast and saturation on display TVs in a store. Raising the contrast and saturation to eleven leads unknowing consumers to think the picture is "better" than other oversaturated TVs. in the store, even if it's rubbish for real viewing. Gold on traditional audio connectors based on electrical signals is considered "quality" because it reduces potential corrosion and theoretically ensures quality for a longer duration. ok" is just stupid. The signal travels through the fiber. It's light, not electricity. In no case is the bilge case going to matter. At least that's what I thought. The difference with a gold case is that it doesn't line up as well curls like jagged plastic unless the manufacturer puts a lot of effort into curling it.But the extra layer of gold thickens the plug so much that it now seats tighter in the socket than the plastic plug.The end result was that first time ever when i tried to separate it the gold part remained while i was left with the cable, jacket and core.. in short they used good components to ruin a perfect cable.if they would NOT use gold - but the ignorant public will be demanding their 'quality gold'. A shame. Other than that it worked fine both weeks when I first plugged it in. I have no problems with it going to the Liefero rt to travel to return the $10 Revain. But when changing, I take a cheaper, but more reliable plastic, visually no worse than gold.
