Review on πŸ“Έ Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM Lens: Exceptional Quality for Canon DSLR Cameras - Fixed Lens by Allan Duman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best lens in my arsenal will no doubt also be the best in ours

Oh my god, where do I start? I had a Sigma 50mm 1.4, two Tamron SP 35mm and an 85mm 1.8, all built for high megapixel wars, but none other than the 85mm 1.2L will give you rendering, bokeh , 3D look, the beautiful L color of the lens and the transition from bokeh to sharpness, the amount of light you can capture with this lens is excellent. It may not be as sharp wide open, but it still makes the images look nicer, has a more special feel than any other lens I've had. The autofocus is top-notch, although I bought it used (with L lenses, I'm sure you've heard that before, you're not paying extra for a red ring, you're paying extra for build quality, reliability, long-term ownership). I had Zeiss, good colors, color reproduction but no Canon L lens, tried to switch to Sony, Nikon because of supposedly better sensors (how much dynamic range do you really need?), features (if I had had a Sony sensor, 5 - axial image stabilization and hybrid -OVF with focus e.g. peaking, zoom) but these two lenses held me back. Lenses 50mm and 85mm 1.2. When shot wide open, they create magical, fairytale-like shots. Canon sensor, Canon L glass, best images I have ever seen (my photography mentor is an avid Nikon fan). Feel free to pull the trigger, I did, and apart from paying more than I personally budgeted for, I have no regrets. No other lens gives you the weather protection, the ability to capture so much light (F1.2!) to get such beautiful AF shots. I can focus manually, I'll be getting a high precision screen for my 6D soon, but autofocus allows you to shoot on the fly and capture moments that manual lenses just can't capture, no matter how good you are. Nobody has autofocus lenses that capture that much light? Nikon? Rivet. Sony? If. The rest are not in the same league. The Pentax K-1 is a great body/sensor, but good glass needs more. I would highly recommend the 50mm 1.2L lens to anyone, if I only need to take one lens this is it!
