Review on πŸ“Ό Coby MP601-2GBLK 1.4-Inch Video MP3 Player with FM, 2GB Flash Memory (Black) (Discontinued) by George Halbohm

Good for the price but not for those who like volume

For $20 this couldn't be better. It was very easy to drag and drop files into it. It played music for me a few minutes after unpacking. The battery life is excellent. I've had it for about a week and haven't charged it yet! The sound quality is excellent if you have good headphones. The earbuds that come with them suck, but to be honest the earbuds that come with all MP3 players suck, even with expensive iPods. I have a nice set of Sennheiser in-ear headphones that sound really great with this player. The sound is customizable with the built in equalizer and overall the quality of high, mid and low reproduced by this player is as good as the iPod and other much more expensive players. I see the far low maximum volume as the only shortcoming of the player. Although the sound quality is excellent, the volume is quite low. That would probably be more than acceptable for most, but I love it when my music is loud! The volume is not enough for me even at the maximum setting. It's loud enough to enjoy, but I wish it was 10-20 decibels louder. I love my Sennheiser headphones (also bought from Revain for a great price) because they have great signal-to-noise ratio and can play so loud it hurts while still being crystal clear. This Coby player would get 5 stars if it was significantly louder. The player is very easy to use. I didn't even pick up the manual, but I was able to fit all my music files in it and easily navigate the player using the menus. To be honest there are a lot of menu options and that surprised me for such a cheap player. All in all, this was a great purchase. Even louder would be perfect. I haven't used it for video and probably never will, so can't speak to the feature. For $20 I expect nothing more than a decent backup music player. To be honest I was planning on taking it to work and traveling to backup my iPod, but I've even used it at home instead of my iPod. I think the sound quality is better (although I can turn the iPod volume up a lot more). Despite this shortcoming, it's still loud enough to enjoy music and I'm very happy with my experience.
