Fritz currently prefers salt for reef aquariums. It mixes very quickly, is clear and has a very constant salinity. I follow her instructions to bring the water up to temperature (78-80 F) before adding the salt. It's easy to calculate - 0.01 pounds per gallon equals 1 ppt salinity. So if you want 35 ppt per 10 gallons = 3.5 pounds of salt (0.01 x 35 x 10). I only notice a bit of brown dirt on the rim of my saltwater mixing bucket when I keep the mixed water in it for a few days, but I like Fritz because it mixes quickly, is very clear, and has very consistent salt and alkalinity levels. I'm considering taking both their regular and high alkaline salt and mixing them 50/50 as I'm only getting 7.3 dkh from regular Fritz.
