I just received this camera yesterday and did some heat related testing. Here's a review based on my short time with him. I loved the Sony A7C, not because of its (slightly) smaller size, but because it's essentially the same as the fantastic A7III, just without the pesky 30-minute recording limit. . Since almost everything I do with video is "long form", I did some stress testing and here are my initial results. All videos are recorded in 4K at 100Mbps with a 20mm APS-C lens. First test: by the window, in the sun, with the LCD pressed against the body. Duration 41 minutes before overheating. Second test: on the same window, but with an LCD display. open. After 12 minutes, start cooling down. Lasted 11 minutes before overheating. Third test: after 2 hours of cooling. In the shade (about 68F) the screen is open. Lasted 2 hours 9 minutes. Worked until the battery died. Preliminary results: The A7C's smaller body isn't really that much smaller than the A7III's - it's not a pocket camera - so you get a cool throwback look, USB-C charging. and fewer available buttons/dials. The battery life is amazing (one battery recorded 3 hours!) and the autofocus is of course perfect. Ultimately, I'd prefer the A7III to this camera if the 30-minute recording limit doesn't bother you. The A7III simply has an excellent case design for real-world use.
