I was building a new bench and wanted someone to help me install it. Unlike the old "traditional" alligator rig with rotating clips, this one uses a magnetic base to attach various clips. It comes with two long and two short flexible alligator clips and four oddly shaped pins that can either hold the circuit board via its edge or any mounting holes you can find. Because everything is held in place by really strong magnets, you can position it however you want, and the base is heavy enough to keep everything on your bench, even if your arms move from side to side. Alligator clips are standard 4mm banana clips. Sockets that have heat shrink tubing on their terminals to insulate them and protect your work. Although heat shrink tubing looks cheap, it is actually a good choice as it is more resistant to high temperatures from a soldering iron or heat gun and is very easy to replace when worn out. The clamps are attached to the arms with screws, and since it's a standard size, it's easy to swap out. My kit included an extra clip and screw in case one was lost. There are many variations of this setup at this price point. This version gives you a USB powered magnifying lamp instead of extra clamps. This is a great option for me as these days I need a magnifying glass more than an extra pair of push pens :) The light is adjustable with 9 levels of brightness and 3 color temperatures. When enabled, it defaults to the warmest color temperature and maximum brightness, but it remembers the last used settings as long as you leave it plugged into a power source. Setup was trivial - no instructions required or included. Depending on your setup, you can either leave it on your desktop or put it back in its storage box. Even if you don't go for this particular model, this tool will be a great addition to your desktop. Highly recommended!
