This tool is built to last. The blade is forged from heavy duty 14 gauge (.0747") stainless steel. The durable plastic handle from what I received was immaculate. This shovel will last several lifetimes. I have encountered two issues with the blade: 1 ) The edges (corners) of the punch blade were very sharp 2) The metal is thick and minimally sharpened at the cutting edge The tool required a lot of force when working with frozen ice cream compared to my vintage Sealtest scoop which is made of much thinner aluminum and is very sharp Sharpen edges with 150 grit sandpaper and the edge with a smooth file (you don't need the edge of the knife here, about half the thickness), then smooth the edges with wet or dry 400 grit sandpaper used wet I'm very happy with the result and don't have one Star deducted because I'm a fan of my tools and for the price, excellent value.
