Main unit did not display temp and humidity from outdoor unit after installing new batteries

A few days ago it spontaneously added Daylight Savings Time and incorrectly reporting time. I manually reset it several times, but it kept malfunctioning. I inspected sensor unit outside and it showed the correct temperature and humidity. I added new batteries, but it still doesn't display temp and humidity on inside unit. Somehow the main unit began displaying outside temp and humidity again the next day. Update: after one year the outside sensor stopped displaying. Changing batteries and unplugging unit does not help. Planned obsolescence?
