These were a present, but I got to pick out the headphones. I think it's absurd that the price range of $10,000 to $12,000 varies widely depending on the hue. The person who gave them to me got them for 6.5k, which is about right in my opinion. In typical JBL fashion, the low end is punchy and powerful, but the midrange and treble are noticeably lacking. The percussion and the vocals are both audible. Even when turned up to 11, the finer points don't get lost in the shuffle. If the frequency response of the default program doesn't suit your needs, you can easily change it. For my part, I beefed up the low end, rounded out the midrange, and boosted the highs to give them more "air" (the closest of the standard ones is Jazz). The headphones have a fantastic design and high levels of ergonomics; the included proprietary software will assist you in selecting the optimal set of ear pads from a selection of five. They stay put, relieve pressure on the ears, and are comfortable to wear. The elimination of background noise is an excellent feature. It may reduce the volume by a certain number of decibels, but I'm not sure. While the noise reduction on these huge headphones will likely impress those who have never tried it before, perfect silence is not to be expected from a device of this size and shape. Sometimes, but not always, he peaks the sibilance in the high and mid-high frequencies when he makes his own sound changes (depends on the mix of each particular track). Very helpful mode of temporal transparency. A double-sided, tiny orange USB Type A to USB Type C cable is included. The software is straightforward but effective, with features like instantaneous firmware updates and the ability to remap sensors and adjust the equalizer. Autopause and all sensors are operational. I didn't wear them for 6 hours straight, so I can't comment on whether or not they actually improve upon the advertised battery life; but, I do have enough for a week of moderate use. The ability to charge wirelessly is convenient. The lid may look like it could break at any moment, so handle with care. What I don't see is why it's an issue to use 4 diodes instead of 3, especially as doing so will result in more useful data. The clincher, however, is the application itself.
