Review on StarTech Com Profile Parallel Adapter PCI1P_LP by Brian Warmack

This article appears to be a 'premium' version of another article that has already received mostly positive reviews from Revain. I chose this item partly because it exceeded the free shipping threshold. Another reviewer claimed that Windows recognized the device immediately without having to install the provided drivers. He also pointed out that it might not work with older parallel devices whose drivers can't handle 'virtual ports'. So I made this purchase with some hesitation as my machine, the HP Deskjet 890c, is at least five years old. In my case, a driver installation was required. The instructions provided, although in unusually good English, indicated that the drivers for Win XP had to be downloaded from their website rather than the CD that came with them. I tried installing from the CD anyway, apparently the two drivers loaded one after the other. XP recognized my printer immediately and it works great. I haven't tried other devices.
