We live in the country and we have children who like to open doors to invite flies out into the pasture. We bought two of these to passively control the flies. They are interconnected and work on the upper floor, which is well lit during the day, and the basement, which is mostly dark. In a week I have zero kills from these units and 5 kills from using a fly swatter. I think I'll get at least one random kill as they put off a pretty bright light. Usually when I turn off the light in the house and leave it on in one room, the flies fly into that room so I can kill them with a fly swatter. The unit sits in the center of our main room in a very open floor plan. The flies fly past this trap to get into the room with the regular lightbulb. I consider the traps a complete waste and essentially garbage.
