Review on 🐠 Enhance Your Aquarium's Water Flow with Jebao FBA_SW-2 Wave Maker - Controller Included, 132-660 GPH by Kelli Ervin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice little pump with a few flaws but great price

I am very happy with these pumps. When I upgraded to the BioCube 32 (up from 29) and decided to add some basic coral, I knew I was going to need more flow than the return pump (upgraded to Cobalt MJ900) and the Hydor Koralia Nano 240 I had the 29 and tended to add Coralia in the next size up. My two main concerns were the slightly large size of the Koralia and the faint but clearly audible clicking sound they made on startup (which would be annoying if it was set to toggle on and off). I saw a few people mentioning jebao wave generators on various reef forums and after further research decided to give them a try. I'm glad I bought two of these because while one of them would have sufficed for my tank, I like the more turbulent flow patterns that come with two of them. They're on opposite rear corners of the tank, and both are set at just over half speed, in a confusingly named "or else" mode that randomly changes the speed of the pumps (using whatever speed you're at with the speed button). as a baseline and use the dial to set the rate of change of flow). Other modes allow for simple continuous flow, several different pulsating wave options, and alternating two pumps. There is a wireless master/slave mode that connects devices so that settings from one device are automatically applied to the other (although speeds can still be set independently for each device), but I've chosen not to use it as a I believe this is the only true way. The advantage would be to synchronize the two pumps in alternating operation. Physically, the Power Heads are conveniently small, about the size of a golf ball, and are easily adjusted in almost any direction you want. They're also very quiet at high speeds, although I have to mention one caveat. One of the pumps was noticeably louder than the other and I planned on changing it. But after removing the cover and removing/installing the impeller, it's completely quiet now (I assume the impeller was installed incorrectly?). A few quibbles. The night mode, which is supposed to slow down the pumps when the light sensor detects that the lights in the tank have gone out, didn't work in my setup. The controllers are mounted on the side of the top of the stand (near the bottom of the tank) and just can't "see" when the lights come on. I was hoping that the increase in ambient light bouncing off a nearby wall would be enough to trigger it, but it doesn't. This isn't a deal killer as I'm wondering if it's necessary or even desirable to reduce the flow at night. The second problem is related to the fact that some settings (as far as I can tell, night mode and wifi) are not saved when the device is switched off. This would be particularly problematic if I really want to use those two features as my Reefkeeper Lite is set to turn off those pumps when it's on standby to feed. However, the way I use them, this isn't an issue as the flow mode and speed settings are retained throughout a power cycle. Still, I'm rating this 5 stars, deducting half a point or so for relatively small ones. Deficiencies, but round up for net worth reasons.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • I have nothing wrong with it everything is fine
