Kaw-1500 had bearing damage in front bevel gear (transfer case) leaving metal shavings in crankcase. Hello, engine flush. After the repair I'm looking for a magnetic drain plug. I measured the original OEM drain plug (pitch 12mm x 1.5 x length 15mm) with a 17mm steel hex head. This new magnetic drain plug was nearby so I gave it a try. I like that the new plug is steel and has a smaller 14mm hex head. The advantage of a steel plug is that it cuts new threads into an aluminum body with transverse threads, while aluminum can contribute to transverse threads over aluminium. With a smaller 14mm hex head, I use a smaller wrench instead of a larger 17mm wrench, so I'm less likely to overtighten. Oh yeah! and I remembered to screw in the new plug with just my fingers to make sure the threads work well before using the wrench. I can't give a mileage estimate yet because the bike hasn't appeared yet. I think this drain plug was my best bet.
