Review on πŸ›’οΈ Black Derale Series 9000 Plate and Fin Transmission Oil Cooler, Model 13613 by Zac Pewitt

Very happy with this product. Very good results. Note: Including short hose.

Installed in my 1990 Ford Class C Motorhome with 460 EFI Gasoline and E40D Transmission. The transmission has just been serviced and testing found no temperature or pressure issues. I want it to work great. as heat greatly shortens the life of the E40D gearbox. I installed this plate and fin cooler in line with a factory installed plate and gear cooler or an internal radiator heater depending on your perspective. Ford's EEC-IV processor and feedback software range from 196 to 210 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal fuel economy and reduced emissions. Pressure tests showed a barely noticeable drop of less than 2psi. Pressure test performed on transmission test port. After installing this radiator kit, I did a 100 mile test drive on the interstate in 100 degree weather. This cooler worked great. Transmission temperature was around 140 degrees Fahrenheit while cruising at all speeds up to 65 mph. The only time it went to 180 degrees Fahrenheit was when reversing into a very hot paved parking lot. Check the fluid level after installation, had to top up about half a liter as very little gear oil was lost during installation and the fluid was needed to fill this radiator. Keep all hose bends and lines within a three inch radius and as short as possible. The hose that comes with the radiator kit is only 1.20m long, so you may need to purchase an extra hose. I clamped all the barb connectors with double hose. I didn't use any mounting hardware but made my own mounts to keep the cooler at least 3/4 clear of anything else. Transmission temperatures are measured by a sensor installed in the test port of a Ford E40D transmission as recommended in the official Ford Truck Shop repair manual.
