I used clippings to cut shapes out of various fabrics, ribbons, and sticky paper. I was happy to see kits of different sizes so I didn't have to buy more than I needed to complete my project. I used a block of wood (from a children's construction set) and a light hammer and got very clean cuts without much effort. The blades are made of metal and are therefore very durable. The cutting edge has a slight taper which means it bites from the first contact and doesn't slip on the material I'm cutting. The incisors are "big" enough to easily hold even the smallest form.
