This was exactly what I was looking for. They keep my pants tight and tucked into my boots. They are definitely important. You can use trial and error to place them in the right place. If the braces are on the top of the ankle, they will be painful. But moving the clasp to a different position fixes that. I bought the adjustable one which comes in handy as some pants are longer than others. However, I have to be careful that the adjustable piece doesn't sit under my foot as it's uncomfortable to walk on. I plan to try it on soon and buy an unregulated one. I only had 1 case where the strap popped out but they were quite stretched. The fasteners can be tricky to remove but I think it helps them stay put so I don't mind. The photo shows my right leg with the strap and my left leg without the strap.
