All Good, Nothing Bad (Features)

I was going to drive for a few weeks before giving my opinion on it. However, nothing has changed as I had high hopes (Garmin product) and was not disappointed. I had a big question: Why such a small screen? The answer is now obvious: the larger the screen, the larger the product and the more of the driver's windshield it covers. And you never feel like looking at the screen when you should be looking at the road. (Another problem is that larger displays are less likely to survive the heat/cold/vibration environments in most cars, so that's it). This device does everything they claim and does it well. I won't list them because you can read the ad as well as I can. However, I will comment on some additions. "Alerts" that can be toggled on and off is pretty fun. If you leave your lane, fail to follow traffic ahead or drive behind you when the light turns green, you will hear a short musical tone and a short on-screen message. It is usually correct in what it "sees", ie very few false positives. Getting videos from a device works well with your phone. The app is reliable and gives you options like "I only want to download this 1 minute part here" as you record that 45 minute ride. I did this just as a test to see if I could read a sign someone was holding at the side of the road as I sped past at 50 mph. (Spoiler alert: yes I could, and it was actually 49mph and I can tell you when and where it was with equal accuracy.) The mounting solution they offer is simple and brilliant. And they can afford it because the product is small and light. We don't know cause or effect, but it shows good system-level technique. Conclusion: Everything works as advertised and there are no defects in any part or feature of this product. I've owned about half a dozen DVRs over the years and this is clearly the next generation model and has learned from the mistakes and shortcomings of previous competing products.
