Defective unit - seller and Garmin refused customer service

After much deliberation I bought a 396LTM-S to replace an aging Zumo 660. In short, after carefully wiring my bike, I found out that the unit is defective and I have to send everything back, which means disconnecting the wiring from the bike. Learn from my mistake, make sure you test the unit including the wiring harness before wasting time routing the wires to the final location. Contacts on the bracket had the appropriate output voltage). Unfortunately, while Garmin and the seller (GPSCity.com) were friendly, neither was helpful. Garmin said to return it to the seller and GPSCity said to return it through Revain which meant no exchange (no exchange offered, returns only) and the sale ended so buying another would have cost significantly more. Was it "bad" customer service? Not quite, they followed the letter of the policy. But neither Garmin nor GPSCity provided "good" customer service, and that separates a company I will continue to do business with from one I won't.

Pros
  • Good product for its price
Cons
  • Not bad
