1000 times better than using a cell phone.

This takes some getting used to. But it works well and I like the live view feature that's available after pairing with your phone. I recently completed 1500 miles (Iron Butt) and was able to share my ride with interested friends and family. It's a lot better than trying to use your phone and Google Maps to navigate.

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for support and durability.
Cons
  • Bad instructions.

Great unit for the price.

Excellent device. Easy installation with included hardware. I've driven it almost 5500 miles and it works very well. Last month he ran 3,600 miles across Washington, Oregon and Nevada on Waze and did really well. It even outperformed Waze in routing through the central operating room, saving me 1.5 hours compared to Waze. I guess Garmin finally figured out what Oregon is? That in itself is amazing.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Hard to say

Disappointed with the accessories

Ok this is my first GPS but overall I wasn't impressed. Good: Works very well with gloves on and bluetooth for headset and phone works. The screen is bright enough when the sun is high in the sky. The display size is suitable for everything except street names under or when the sun is low in the sky. The price is lower than previous generation devices. Pretty quick to route if you turn off advanced features. The bracket also works off-road without any problems. Bad: Unintuitive interface…

It's ok but it's not google maps

I like GPS on my motorbike because I prefer a phone on my body. That's partly because I need my phone in case my car and I are separated (it has happened) and also because I drowned two iPhones while out driving in the rain. I bought this model because my two previous Zumos stopped working (!). Its use requires learning; You must learn to speak Garmin. My initial preferences led to some strange routing solutions popping up. I will learn. Bluetooth pairing with my phone seems fine, but I haven't

  • Easy to use

Defective unit - seller and Garmin refused customer service

After much deliberation I bought a 396LTM-S to replace an aging Zumo 660. In short, after carefully wiring my bike, I found out that the unit is defective and I have to send everything back, which means disconnecting the wiring from the bike. Learn from my mistake, make sure you test the unit including the wiring harness before wasting time routing the wires to the final location. Contacts on the bracket had the appropriate output voltage). Unfortunately, while Garmin and the seller…

Prepare to lose 1/3 of the screen

Pros first: Large screen size. Durable, dropped on hard tarmac a few times and not scratched once. Pretty decent navigation interface. Doesn't overheat or turn off like a phone. weather protection. Cons: The Basecamp software is terrible. Very confusing, non-intuitive and overly complicated (am I planning my trip, route, hike?). Many times you export a route to GPS and it will still re-render the path based on the device settings, completely ignoring any custom routes you may have made in the…

Basecamp reminds me of the mid 90's program

Typical Garmin headache up to now. Basecamp still reminds me of the mid 90's program. I spent 6 hours uploading an OSM map here because Garmin 100% does not sell maps for Korea or Japan. So. The world's largest GPS manufacturer doesn't even offer GPS maps for the world's third largest economy. OSM maps are the only choice. But they don't load on Zumo. Edit: Changed to 4 stars. I finally have an OSM card that works on this thing. Still taking one star off because it was such a headache and the…

Very happy! in GPS units

I've only been using it for two days but so far I'm really enjoying it. It works pretty much like any other Garmin GPS navigator, except when I first used it it only had a 1/2 QWERTY keyboard. Accessing the right half required pressing an arrow key. This is good because it makes the keys bigger and very easy to type with gloves on, but bad because you have to constantly move the keyboard back and forth. However, if you click the little globe button in the top right corner, you get a full…

  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
