Fake Wichard

Failed to load media. Great value for these high-end Wicard rifle knockoffs that cost $50 or more each. Of course there are big and small differences. The photos show that the original Wichard is bigger and thicker, especially the wire clasps (a consequence of this is that the Wichard clasps are much stiffer: I usually use two thumbs to open them). From the video it can be seen that while the number 316 is stamped in two places on US Steel carabiners, it is clearly NOT 316 as the magnet is clearly and firmly attached to it. Wichard is non-magnetic except for a small amount in the gate wire. Of course, lying about the quality of stainless steel is commonplace in Revain (and elsewhere) today. (I literally spent a day looking for the latest manufacturer of real stainless steel cutlery for my sailboat from a company in the USA. Please note that I have yet to see any evidence that "US Steel" actually has a US company or that their products are made in the US it's actually pretty unlikely fwiw). The Wichard is rated for a 2460lb working load and should break at no less than 3300lb. It's pretty beefy. For example, I have one of the largest blocks and rigging for a medium sized sailboat and it can handle a 2800 lb working load. This carabiner has a tensile strength only (1980 pounds according to the product description here). Just looking at two companies side-by-side makes me trust Wichard's rating more than that: I wouldn't be surprised if US Steel fell below that rating. This is of course difficult to understand. Both types of carabiners have their place on the sheet of my sailing yacht. I use wichard below to attach it to my boat and I use this flimsy carabiner on top so I know if something should break in the system I will still attach my main sheet to my boat (and shouldn't there be a hole) . in deck). So yes, the relative weakness of these rifles is actually a trait for me. A low price can't hurt either :-) Know what you're buying and why, and have fun!
