For honey distribution > follow up > ERROR

In my ORIGINAL review: I found the plastic lid looks solid and is easy to clean. The retractable element worked well and did not leak. It was easy to slip but could be problematic for people with severe arthritis; If you have mild arthritis, you can slide on it without any problems or pain. The gasket is a separate item. It can come loose with cleaning, but it's strong, about 1/16th of an inch thick, and made of good silicone so it doesn't seem to be damaged as easily as soft rubber (like you find on metal-topped dispensers). it's hard to find a substitute for it). It snaps into the lid relatively securely. If you don't over tighten it will be safe too. After that, the glass jug is easy to clean (in the dishwasher if desired) I only washed the lid with hot water and soap, I didn't risk putting it in the dishwasher, no need for natural honey from my own beehives (pumped from glass jars). Worked SUPER, the flow works well and it stops clean. My only complaint was that I wanted it to be 16 oz! It remains SUPERB compared to the sliding metal lid versions (which work great until the soft rubber pad is damaged and doesn't fail (which it does after only a few uses). This product seemed to last for years with no issues. >> UPDATE: It lasted 4 months and the latch mechanism wouldn't open anymore. We tried putting it in boiling water to make sure it was clean inside but that didn't help. I ended up pulling the bolt out and the metal spring (a bent piece metal that snaps into place, similar to what you find in a battery compartment. The inside was COMPLETELY filled with thick old honey or some sort of lube. Hard to tell, the consistency was almost like silicone caulk. Now it was busted anyway, so I poured hot water over it and cleaned it The clasp returns to its place but it no longer has the spring that would keep it closed. As another reviewer points out, THIS mechanism is his fault. It should be easier to remove and clean. I would recommend detaching this sunroof when cleaning. (It's just two little protrusions holding it in place.) I think the metal part snapped under the pressure from all that thick stuff and pushed the bolt open. (Over time, it became very difficult to slide it back.) HOWEVER, the tabs don't appear to be particularly durable, so it's possible they'll break over time as well. The problem is that it stays sealed unless you open it (to avoid leaking) so it really can't be cleaned even if it's soaked in boiling water. Disappointed. I had high hopes for this long-term solution. But again, cheap = poor quality in the long run.
