Bought this based on the Wirecutter recommendation, as well as the sibling "Sky Bright" model for comparison. I don't have a lux meter to verify it supplies the needed 10,000 lux but I'm willing to assume it does: It resembles a giant white-faced computer monitor. It's bright, but no brighter than the slightly smaller SkyBright.Regardless, the overall design of this thing is pretty bad: ultra-cheap plastics all around and crunchy adjustments make it feel overpriced even at $100. The height adjustment is particularly awful, creating a really unpleasant screeching sensation as the metal cam scrapes up or down. The box housing the lamps is laughably enormous given its function, and the stand is so much bigger and fatter than it needs to be. There is no effort to hide the cord which shoots off to the side for no obvious reason (really? can't the plug just be in the center?). When powered on, the front-facing diffuser reveals that at least a quarter of the surface area isn't even providing utility - note the wide, unlit border that does nothing more than take up space.In 2022 you can buy a fairly low end LCD monitor for about the same price and get a svelte, strong, adjustable stand attached to it - not to mention the complex electronics of the monitor itself. It is disappointing that a box with the simple job of holding a few light bulbs doesn't even come close - mechanically or aesthetically - to commonplace products with similar size/shape/form.Something this big and bulky is going to be impossible not to notice in a room, and unfortunately, that attention will be drawn to a fairly ugly piece of equipment. So, it (probably) does what it promises in terms of light delivery, but it sure doesn't bring any grace or elegance to the job.
