Review on πŸ› οΈ RIKON Power Tools Model 70-105 Lathe by Maxwell Thomas

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great little lathe

Received his lathe just before Christmas 2015, I was impressed with the finish and smooth running of the tailstock. Share. I wanted to buy one from Rocklers Harbor Freight and Excelsior as I think they are roughly the same lathe. This was $50 more at Woodcraft but has a 5 year warranty instead of Harbor's 90 days and Rockler's 1 year. The engine seems to be improved as it has cooling fins. Others have had concerns about how hot the port gets, so far it's only been lukewarm. It is very well balanced with no vibration. I got him to play with the spinning pins and toys, so far it's been great as I'm just learning. I've had an old Craftsman lathe for years and never did anything with it because I was always in arguments (I didn't know that until now) so it wasn't much fun with it now, it became a joy to work in the shop and game. It's heavy enough and smooth enough that I didn't screw it on and it didn't even move with some large pieces of wood that weren't square and were unbalanced to begin with and it still handled it well. Great little lathe for turning pens and toys or small projects

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
