Review on Verbatim 4.7GB 8X DataLifePlus Shiny Silver Silk Screen Printable DVD-R - Pack of 50 in Spindle by Edy Yukface

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great media, small limitations

I am very pleased with the Verbatim DataLifePlus 50 Pack (#95203) Made in Taiwan. . I burned 600 DVD-Rs and they were perfect. I was hoping these 100 steps would be the same, but they aren't. Compare #95203 (50 packs) with #97017 (100 packs) Same: Manufacturing Company - Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. - 1st level of the manufacturer. co.Same: Production ID: MCC 03RG20Same: silver top and teal bottom Difference: 50 packs DVD-Hub are marked "VERBATIM DVD-R 16X” 100 packs are not marked at all. Diff: 50 packs made in Taiwan. 100 packs made in China. Difference: 50 packs can burn at 16x, 100 packs can burn at 18x (according to Nero) Difference: 50 packs come in a 50 pack spindle. A pack of 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 is wrapped with plastic discs on top and bottom to avoid scratching the media. Test: So far I've burned 7 DVD-Rs at 8x speed with Burn Check - everything is perfect. I record 4486 MB - almost the maximum capacity. Notes: Revain's box packaging wasn't great - there was a lot of bouncing in the box. However, my 4,100 packs were not affected. Conclusion: should be good. I trust Verbatim and Mitsubishi but not China. UPDATE: After burning 200 I have more reservations - coasters. I made about 5 of these. I burn these DVDs at 8x on the same LG drive that burned 600 Verbatim 95203 discs (50 pack version, made in Taiwan) perfectly. So I recommend Verbatim 95203 instead - for peace of mind.
