I connected the supplied cable to the scanner and the other end to the PC, opened a text editor on my computer and started scanning PDF417 and 1D barcodes, den computer screen. It seems to read better off-axis, i.e. not perpendicular to the screen. I suspect this is because the scanner has an LED that illuminates the "paper". No light is needed when scanning a barcode on a computer screen or a phone screen. The manual includes barcodes to scan to enable/disable features. I could turn off the light if needed, but scanning the barcode on the computer screen at an angle is enough. No drivers were needed. Just plug it in and start scanning.
