Review on DANIEL SMITH Extra Fine Watercolor Set - Primary Colors - 3 Tubes, 15ml by Wendy Rodriguez

These colors don't go well together.

It's hard for me to give a bad review knowing that Daniel Smith's watercolors are of high quality. I've never used them before, but too many pros have praised them for not being true. However, if I buy primaries that are packaged together as a primaries pack, I expect to be able to make a color wheel out of those colors. It won't happen with these. Which is very disappointing because they aren't cheap and my only goal was to work with red, blue and yellow and mix all my colors from them. But no, they mix terribly. Green from blue + yellow turned out ugly no matter how I mixed it. The blue has extreme grain which, hey, if that's what you're looking for then great. But then again, the main color grabs people! It won't mix well. Also, red is opaque. You can of course choose Daniel Smith tubes with clear and non-granulated colors. They are known for using quality ingredients in their paints and you will pay for it. My point is that my complaint here isn't with Daniel Smith's watercolors, it's that this pack is being sold in a way that appeals to artists who want to use the three primary colors to create their entire palette, and that doesn't work for this.
