These straws are ideal for smoothies. I love her! After use I wash them off and run water through them. Then I place them vertically in a cutlery holder in the dishwasher. They always come out of the dishwasher clean inside and out. I never needed a brush. Although I don't use a brush, I like that it has a plastic ball on the end of the wire. The problem I had when cleaning plastic straws was that the end of the wire in the middle of the brush would scratch the edges of the straw, probably giving the bacteria all sorts of hiding spots. I love that someone thought of putting a plastic ball on the end of the wire that came with these straws. What I love even more is that these straws are flawless even without a brush.
