I've used some of the best brands of watercolor on the market. I have certain things I like to do with watercolors, one of which is using them for more vibrant possibilities. I also like the grain and the good color mixture. Just take a look. HOW THESE ARE MADE They come in a box with a plastic insert that holds the tubes in place. These are metal tubes with a screw cap. Inside is a sample watercolor paper listing each color. Not only do they print the color you want to apply, they also give you basic information about each color which is REALLY helpful. It talks about transparency, durability and pigment content. It also takes color well. HOW TO OPEN It took me a while to use them to be honest because I wanted to make sure I had a watercolor palette ready to apply. Every brand of watercolor I've ever used, from one end of the professional list to the other, has issues with metal tubes spewing out unexpected bursts of color. I've learned from the past that you need a ready-made palette to apply. Luckily I only had 1 hose that did what surprised me. Usually there are several. FEATURES I have to say they were surprisingly good when I used them. They are light in color. They have a nice texture and some are even grainy, which I really like. It's enough to give it that grainy look that's so beautiful when mixed with certain colors. PIGMENTI had no problem with colors that were too light or under-pigmented. Every color I've used has been pretty good. PROBLEMS? I only had a problem with cobalt blue. It was pretty dry in the tube but ended up in my pan ready to use. Otherwise, most of the others were of perfect consistency. Not too thin or thick. As I said, only one fell when I opened it. WHO COULD LIKE THIS? I would call these colors mid-range colors. They are much nicer than hobby or student paints, but not as flimsy and luxurious as some high-end professional paints. However, they are excellent performers and I would say that beginners would do well to start with them and professionals might want to do some outdoor paintings that they want to do for fun and not for professional reasons. I will use them lightly to add to other paintings that I paint with high quality paints and I don't feel bad about it. SUMMARY These colors work better than expected. The colors are pigmented, the pigment and performance info is clear for each color, and the grain and lightening ability are similar to some of the really good colors I use. MY RATES ARE FIVE STARS. These colors are a good mid-range color. I would prefer these really cheap paints for a beginner because they allow a person to explore the nuances of grain, color mixing and beautiful separation that make watercolor so beautiful and enjoyable to work with.
