I think it will do the job. We got it for our 3 month old dog to stay in the living room when she has free time. The dog you see in the picture is our older dog who doesn't particularly like the puppy so he separates the two if need be. I will say that although I initially thought it was easy when I started the build, it turned out to be difficult when I tried to block it. You need to make sure your gate is snapped into place before placing the legs. Otherwise you will not be able to align the parts to fix them. I probably spent 20 minutes figuring out how to line them up only to realize that removing the legs so you could slide the pieces together to secure it would only work. Then you can put your feet up. Then, very carefully, open it to the desired distance, being careful not to separate the panels, and then latch it.
