Review on Sony 40Mm F2 5 Full Frame Ultra Compact by Christie Cox

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A stunning lens when size matters

Build quality: The SEL40F25G lens is objectively well built. The housing is made of aluminum and feels good in the hand. The aperture ring snaps in nicely and the focus ring is buttery smooth. For its size, this is a well-built premium lens. Performance: The SEL40F25G is a very fast lens. The autofocus is fast and very quiet. The bokeh is also nice and creamy. I would like it to be a bit faster, but I understand that some compromises have to be made to make the lens as compact as possible. Compared to some of the Zeiss Batis Primes and GM zooms I own, I still prefer the images that come out of these lenses, but they're also significantly more expensive. Size: I took the a7c for the days when my a9+GM lenses are too heavy to carry around. The SEL40F25G is the perfect complement to the a7c. It's slightly taller than the stock a7c lens and much shorter than my 50 f/1.8. This keeps everything looking neat and compact while still producing excellent quality recordings. Overall, the SEL40F25G is a great lens. There are similar lenses that are faster, smaller, or cheaper, but the SEL40F25G strikes a good balance of build quality, speed, and size that's hard to find on the market. So why not 5 stars? It all depends on the price. I understand that it takes a lot of effort to make something this good and so small, but it is an expensive endeavor.*Disclaimer: I received this product at a reduced price in exchange for my honest opinion.
