I got this for an atypical application - to cool a hard drive that might fail. I have an old 3 1/2 inch hard drive with some important information that hasn't been fully backed up yet. The last time I stuck them into an external drive case to view the contents of the drive, I noticed that the drive was operating VERY hot, so I powered it down until I could think of a way to cool it down. This came in the form of an old one CPU fan and heatsink, which I attached to the drive with rubber bands, and a pea-sized bead of this heatsink grease to shrug off the heat from the hard drive. heat it up and let me back up the data before the drive fails completely. It's always nice to have some on hand when the CPU or fan needs some TLC. Should have enough left over for the next emergency repair!
