Review on CURT 18100 Aluminum Tray Hitch Cargo Carrier: 60 x 20-Inch, 500 lbs Capacity, Foldable 2-in Shank for Added Convenience by Kip Ruach

Poor quality control and design

I had two main issues with this medium: 1. The standard 2x2" hitch isn't exactly square, it has rounded edges. The Curt Cargo Carrier does have rounded edges, but they aren't sufficiently rounded. In order to fit the holder into my pickup hitch, I had to take a grinder and round the corners to fit. I have many other 2" receiver accessories that go well with my receiver, so the problem is Kurt, not my receiver. Curt's design should have included a wider range of receiver tolerances. 2. After sanding the corners as above, to fit the holder to my receiver I couldn't get the locking pin in. By measuring with a digital caliper I found that the hole in the curt holder was about 1mm off center. I had to use a dremel tool to widen the hole to fit. This is just poor processing control. Please note that the 500lb capacity is based on an evenly distributed load e. In real life, that rarely happens. A concentrated load will slightly bend the aluminum mesh trunk floor. The simplest solution to this problem is to lay a thin sheet of plywood on the floor. As mentioned in other reviews, the collapsible design combined with the holder sticking out of the receiver quite a bit results in little wobble. If you don't need the folding feature and have a receiver hitch that extends to the rear of your vehicle, you can forgo the folding mechanism and get a much tighter, tighter fit.
