The photo shows what happens when I use this coffee maker for its intended purpose. The black pulp from this coffee maker is not coffee. The same mess happens when I just make hot water. One problem is that the heating plate is made of a substance that dissolves when wet, forms a black liquid when water is dropped on it, and then also splashes when this black water is heated by heat. The second problem is that the steam from the basket condenses and flows down the edges of the coffee maker without getting into the jug, ie dripping onto a defective heating plate. Together, these two shortcomings result in you having to clean up the mess every time you use this coffee maker, even if you use it fully for its intended purpose. This coffee machine is suitable for use in a coal mine, but not at home, in the office or even in a car repair shop. Update Monday July 8, 2019: This coffee maker died yesterday. I went to make coffee, flipped the switch and nothing happened. The light on the power button didn't burn, the water didn't heat up. So no coffee. And that's with ownership of this machine for less than fourteen (14) months. So when Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach backs their product with a one-year warranty, that's exactly what you're getting. For quality like this, they should run this thing around five bucks. However, I don't want to send another piece of cheap plastic to the landfill every year. And now I'm going to buy another coffee maker. What happened to the pride in your work?
