I stumbled across an impromptu jointing project and bought this to replace an old soldering iron. It is fully functional but there are more complete soldering kits in the same price range. Solder, a pump and stand are essentials, but it's hard to justify the price tag for extra tweezers. A few notes: Firstly, this looks like the same iron that comes with a number of other sets and I can't imagine it being that accurate, but the temperature dial isn't very clearly marked. Even now I'm not sure if the number or the notches should line up with the arrow as there's nothing to indicate which direction is correct. Second, the iron doesn't have an on/off switch, so even an external AC/DC switch wouldn't interfere for safety reasons. Finally, a small amount of flux would also be useful to care for the iron and protect it from oxidation: in its current form, pewter and tip cleaners must be purchased separately. This is a good buy, but a little far from ideal.
