500w is about as low as I would go for a hand blender and this one is just perfect. It works very well and does its job. It's not as strong as some, but it's easier to handle. I think it's worth considering depending on what you need it for. This will make your smoothie pretty smooth, but it will still end up with some fibrous material, blueberry peel, and the like.
