I had a pair of 5 watt powered PC speakers that had an intermittent noise from their internal amplifier. (Known issue with these speakers which are now being discontinued). They were used for a homemade bluetooth alarm/music player. I unplugged the old amp and plugged it in using a USB gauge cable and a phone charger for power. It fits snugly in the speaker. With *proper shielding* this is a quiet, efficient and great sounding amp. The speakers sound better than before. The problem with any amp (but especially this type) is that you need proper shielding or it will pick up EMI and 60-cycle hum. I simply wrapped foil tape around the speaker enclosure and attached ferrite clips to the incoming and outgoing wires. dismantled. With this decent (albeit low-tech) shielding, I have to turn the volume up to the maximum to get a barely noticeable hiss. Let's see how it performs over time, but for now I'm very happy with the results.
