One of my dogs has recently discovered the trash can. She's also fairly intelligent. This combination is problematic. At first, we had the trash can under the counter. They figured out how to open the cabinet and pull the can out. So we moved to a free-standing step can we already had. That was an epic failure, she took the can out the first day. She's also figured out how to get into our compost bucket (it goes to a commercial composting place, so there's usually some tasty nibbles in there). She has steered clear of this one. I'm not sure if it's because it's shiny, because the lid scares her, or because she just can't knock it over, but I'm happy since I'm not cleaning up trash repeatedly.The sensor took a little trial and error for everyone in my house and it still evades my FIL, but the rest of us find it super convenient. We put dirty diapers in the can and it keeps the smell in, as long as the lid is closed. We opted for the version with the wall adapter, and I like not having to worry about batteries. The ring to keep the bag in is nice so you don't see a trash bag hanging out.
