Note: Can't comment on durability yet as I've only had it a month. I'll update when it burns out to give a better idea of its lifespan. I'm not usually very inquisitive, but I was very excited to start successfully growing herbs (from seed!) in the summer. Living in Boston, I knew that the cold and lack of daylight in winter was a problem would represent for me. When I first brought everything indoors it looked like placing plants near windows would be good enough, but after just a few weeks they were starting to look pretty bad. I wanted to survive the winter so I bought this bulb and built a foil fort around my herb table (see photo) to maximize its light. Within two weeks everything was looking better (even the aloe vera) and my leeks are growing out of control. So far I am very satisfied with the intensity of the lamp and the heat level. It warms up, but I can still position it fairly close to the plants to minimize light falloff. I would (namely) recommend this to a friend. Edit: after 8 months of daily use (several hours a day, less in winter, less in summer) the bulb burned out. All in all I'm fine with that as it worked well for my needs.
