These mats have really helped my cat eat slower! My cat used to be feral and would eat quickly, but not so fast that she had stomach problems or vomited. But when she ate, she seemed very nervous, she kept looking over her shoulder as if she hadn't eaten it soon, we'd taken the food. We don't use MATS for every feeding as we only have two MATS. I have found that blue waffle shaped mats work best for dry food and orange mats for wet food. As another commenter mentioned these things are difficult to clean, I agree - I have to soak the rug in water to rinse/brush off any residue under water and then put it in the dishwasher. The water from the tap gets onto the mat and unfortunately splashes everywhere. I would give these MATS five stars
