It's nice not having loose or folded cords in my bag. The cord is pretty flimsy, but it retracts and wraps around things nicely for security. It takes up a lot less space than what I was carrying and I don't have to struggle with rolling and tying it up. There is a button on the side for releasing and retracting the cable. It's well built and I've used it many times with no problems and didn't look like an idiot unwrapping a massive laptop lock on a borrowed desk. Just press the button, unplug the cable, hook something through the hole in the base of the lock, and then use the key to attach it to your laptop or something with a slot. The only thing I would warn about is if your laptop or device has a deep lock slot (ie you have used locks that come with gaskets and those that are tight without any gaskets whatsoever), that lock can be very tight. If your device usually shakes a bit when locked, that should be fine. I've used it on Macbook, Dell Latitude and HP Elite Book with no problems. And it weighs less than my mouse (Logitech Anywhere mx), so you don't have to carry much more weight in your bag or suitcase. It feels very close to the weight of the iPhone 5.
