Review on Experience Stunning Visuals with BenQ EW2780U 27" Monitor featuring High Dynamic Range and IPS Technology with HDMI Connectivity by Chad Castillo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The Macbook M1 Air is the best in my rating

I think a lot of people are wondering if this monitor will deliver 4K at 60Hz on the new MacBook M1. Answer: Yes, BUT you need to send the monitor back to BenQ for a firmware update. What I like about the monitor is the ambient light sensor and the blue light setting. Now I only buy BenQ monitors because they focus on eye care. The reason I deducted 1 star is because 1. It was totally unclear how to output 4K at 60Hz. Only after a long search on the forums did I find out that this is possible after a firmware update provided directly by BenQ. To set this up you need to contact the support team. It takes about 1 week, which is not bad but still uncomfortable2. It seems that the monitor does not support USB-C with the MacBook M1. This is one of the reasons I bought the monitor as I love the elegance of the single cable going to the laptop for power, video and other inputs. That's my fault, but I didn't think to check if the monitor had a standard USB input before buying it. No, which means that if you want to add a webcam to your monitor, you'll need to connect it directly to your laptop. I used LG in my old office with a standard USB input, so it created a very clean space where a single USB-C cable coming from the monitor provides power, video and webcam connection. He was very clean. Overall this is a great monitor and the eye care features still make it my top pick. Just thought I'd share these thoughts with all the "Type A" people like me when it comes to your gadgets.
