Review on Finnex Stingray Aquarium Light Moonlights by Elizabeth Jackson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Disappointed with performance and inefficiency

I received a unit that didn't work with a bad diode. This light is perfect for a rimless micro cube of 5 gallons or less for shrimp, no more. Somehow I was under the impression that it was a higher performance and better diode for what it is. Ideally 420nm and 660nm are suitable for horticulture but the diodes used are less efficient and weak compared to newer diodes on the market. If Finnex 5050, 2835 or better Samsung lm561c or lm501b/h diodes with additional half or Lumiled Luxeon or Sunplus diodes at 380 nm (UV), 420 nm blue, 630-660 nm dark red and 730 nm (IR ) would use, the lights would be the best on offer. This 12 inch light is low on 7 watts and the "out of range" rating for a planted aquarium is under 1 watt per gallon when used on more than 7 gallons where ppfd is insufficient. The 120° beam isn't ideal, and water projects light off the surface and scatters it like a prism (spreading and dividing) so you need more lumens/watt/ppfd (parity is the "color" frequency of the spectrum). Case is thin and light but plastic" Cheap plastic feet/bracket For the money this was/is not a good investment/buy compared to other offerings on the market at this price point.
