Review on Manfrotto Element Traveller Aluminum 5 Section by Brian Mendoza

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Rugged, portable, reliable

Unfortunately I now have 4 travel tripods. I finally have one with this one that won't fall apart or wobble in a light breeze. Slightly heavier than Superlights, but that's exactly what I needed. Fits in carry on, legs lock in well, solid overall, ballhead is acceptable although I've switched mine to a minimally light one. I removed a MePhoto tripod that fell apart at a critical moment with a very rare owl. It shaved off a few ounces and gave me a slightly better head. I think Manfrotto struck the right balance between weight and portability with this device. Carrying it in a backpack for long distances with a bunch of other gear might not be the most comfortable experience, but for general air and road travel and reasonable mobility on foot, this is ideal. I'll be taking it to South Texas soon for bird watching (with Canon 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 and Canon 5D M4 and 6D II with shorter lens) where I'll be walking 5-8 miles a day for 5 days. days, then to New York (the largest lens there is 70-200mm f4) where I lug it around intermittently and about the same run for 3-4 days. I believe this will work well for both of them.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

The tripod itself is nice, not a fan of the stock ball head ...
