designed for older kittens

Size is pretty good for older kittens, not recommended for adult cats. It's a bit small for that now, but it's not strong enough to slide out, so it's ok. The price is great for the quality and he only flops around when he's on it so we're going to let him off the leash for a while to give him some time to get used to it. and yes, the leash is a bit short, but if that was a problem I would just get a longer leash.
