I had three of these Southwire testers. one didn't work (not bought from amazon). The rule of thumb for these testers is to always test them on a circuit you know is live before testing them on a circuit where you want the actual result. do that. 110 hurts. So far I've had a few false positives from this tester, but they were false positives. a false positive result indicates caution. I haven't had a single false negative result. False negatives are when you jump back, yell, and try to shake the buzz out of your fingers. As with any electrical engineering product, circuit testing is absolutely no substitute for knowing what you are doing. If you're not sure, electricians get paid to know how much it hurts to be electrocuted, so you don't need to know. If you know how to use this thing, we won't call you sparkling.
